Eco-Counter International Awards: the winners!
The « Communication » Award was given to the city of Hannover in Germany for its large-scale communication campaign “Lust auf Fahrrad” bringing together originality and innovation. The city succeeded in bicycle promotion through fun events and social media activity. Local authorities managed to show that, like bicycle facilities, bicycle count data is indeed a precious tool to engage the community to cycle more!
The « Monitoring » Award was given to Grand Lyon, the metropolitan jurisdiction of Lyon for its data sharing program as well as its proactive actions in the matter of cycling policy. The jury of international experts was enthusiastic toward its data sharing program as well as its encouraging trends stating that average bicycle traffic in the city has increased by 370% over the last decade!
The « Pioneer » Award was given to Sejong City in South Korea: the city is a pro-cycling pioneer in Asia, and was also the first city in the whole continent to install an Eco-DISPLAY Classic! Sejong now owns 4 of those to promote active transportation and attract active commuters to the city.
The « Outstanding Contribution » Award was given to Zlatko Krstulic for his active commitment to bicycle development. The city of Ottawa, where he works as a transportation planner, has set up a large-scale count program, consisting in systematically measuring bicycle traffic on new cycling facilities. He built the current count program and is spreading the word locally and federally!
